What SCADA electrical infrastructure involves
Infrastructure electrical work happens outdoors, in the ground, and on a schedule nobody controls. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With SCADA electrical infrastructure, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
You see the problem before you see a price. We point to what we found, explain why it matters and then tell you what fixing it takes. No pressure to approve on the spot.
Where this comes up
Street lighting, traffic signals, pump stations and underground distribution. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
Previous work is the wild card. Plenty of Illinois homes and shops have circuits somebody extended on a weekend, splices buried in a wall with no box, and breakers upsized to stop a nuisance trip. We find those first, because they decide what is safe to build on.
How we do it
Licensed and insured on every call. No job is too small to do properly, and no shortcut is worth an inspector’s red tag. We would rather do it once.
What changes with an older building
Buildings in this part of Illinois cover about a century of wiring practice. Knob-and-tube in the oldest, cloth-insulated branch circuits after that, aluminum wiring in a stretch of the sixties and seventies, and modern copper since. Each one fails differently and each one has its own repair path.
We look at what is actually in the walls before quoting, because guessing from the year the house was built is how people end up with a surprise halfway through.
Who actually shows up
Same people, every job. The licensed electricians who handle commercial and municipal work also take the small residential calls, and every part of the work stays with us, including the tedious parts.
You will know who is coming and roughly when. If traffic or an earlier job pushes that back, we call to say so. It is a small thing that a lot of this trade still gets wrong.
What the permit actually buys you
A permit puts the work on the public record for the address. When the building changes hands, that record is evidence the electrical was done and checked. Without it, a buyer's inspector treats everything they find as suspect.
It also means the work was sized and installed to the code edition in force, not to whatever was normal when the building went up.
Materials and why they matter
Devices are not all the same. A fifty-cent backstabbed outlet holds the conductor with a spring clip; a commercial-grade one clamps it under a screw plate. The second kind is a couple of dollars more and it is the reason the connection is still tight in fifteen years.
We use commercial-grade devices as standard. It is a small share of the job cost and it is the part most likely to fail if you go cheap on it.
What to do before we arrive
A warm faceplate or a buzzing switch means stop using it. Turn that circuit off at the panel, tape over the switch or outlet so nobody in the house uses it out of habit, and leave the device in place for us to look at.
Keep track of patterns. Does it happen in the morning, in the rain, when the microwave runs? Patterns point us straight at the fault.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.
How the job runs
- Step 1
Call
Day or night, a call reaches an electrician. We ask a few questions and tell you whether it is urgent.
- Step 2
Diagnose
We find the actual fault. Not a guess, and not a rewire you did not need.
- Step 3
Price
You get the number before the work starts, in writing.
- Step 4
Permit
Where the village requires one, we pull it. That is on us, not on you.
- Step 5
Install
Licensed and insured, to code, cleaned up behind us.
- Step 6
Inspect
We meet the inspector and we sign off. You get the documentation.

SCADA electrical infrastructure questions
Do you handle SCADA electrical infrastructure in Des Plaines?
Yes. SCADA electrical infrastructure is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
Yes. Permit requirements change from one village to the next, so we check before we start, pull what is needed and stay through the inspection.
How soon can you start?
Urgent problems, same day. Everything else, usually within a few days of your call. If the village needs a permit before we start, the permit sets the date.
Are you licensed for this?
Every job is done under Quik Wire Electric’s Illinois electrical contractor license, and the company is insured. We do not hand the work off to anyone outside that license.
What does it cost?
That depends on the scope, and the scope depends on what we find when we open things up. We look first, then put a written number in front of you before anything starts. You decide from there.
