Data Center backup power
Redundancy has to be designed in from the start. Bolting it on afterwards costs more and usually still leaves a single point of failure somewhere. Quik Wire Electric handles backup power across Des Plaines and 24 Illinois counties. Licensed, insured, permitted where it needs to be.
- Licensed
Illinois electrical contractor license. The work passes inspection.
- Insured
Full coverage on every job, residential through municipal.
- 24/7
No power, burning smell, breaker that will not hold. We answer.

Where the village requires one we file it and meet the inspector.

What backup power involves
Redundancy has to be designed in from the start. Bolting it on afterwards costs more and usually still leaves a single point of failure somewhere. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With backup power, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
Honest answer first. If what you have is fine, we say it is fine. If it needs work, we tell you how much and why, with the urgent parts separated from the ones that can wait.
Where this comes up
Critical power, UPS, redundancy and the electrical behind server rooms. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
It comes up most during a remodel. The walls are open, the old wiring is right there, and it is the cheapest moment the building will ever give you to fix what is behind them. Once the drywall is back, the same repair costs more.
How we do it
Straight to the point: we find the problem, fix it to code and leave the space as clean as we found it. Anything that needs a permit gets one, and gets inspected.
What we see go wrong
Most of the bad work we find was not done by an electrician. It was a handyman, a previous owner or somebody who watched a video. Backstabbed outlets, undersized conductors, missing grounds, neutrals and grounds bonded in a subpanel, junctions buried inside a wall with no box.
None of that is visible from the living room. It surfaces during a remodel, a home inspection, or the day a breaker stops holding.
What happens when we are done
When the work wraps up, you get a short rundown in plain language of what we found, what we fixed, and anything that can wait but belongs on your list. The panel gets labeled and the work area gets swept before we go.
Where a permit was pulled you get the closed inspection. Where documentation exists, you get it.
The inspection is the point
An inspection is an independent check that what went behind the drywall matches what was supposed to. Work that passes has been verified by somebody with no stake in the invoice.
That is also why we would rather you hire a licensed contractor than the cheapest number you can find. Unpermitted electrical work is a problem you inherit, and it usually surfaces at the worst moment.
Materials and why they matter
Devices are not all the same. A fifty-cent backstabbed outlet holds the conductor with a spring clip; a commercial-grade one clamps it under a screw plate. The second kind is a couple of dollars more and it is the reason the connection is still tight in fifteen years.
We use commercial-grade devices as standard. It is a small share of the job cost and it is the part most likely to fail if you go cheap on it.
What to do before we arrive
If the panel itself is hot, buzzing or smells, do not touch it at all. Shut off the main only if you can reach it without leaning on the box. Otherwise keep clear and tell us that when you call.
Tell us what was plugged in when it happened and roughly what time it was. The more specific you are, the faster we find it.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.
How the job runs
- Step 1
Call
You describe the symptom to an electrician who has seen it before. Urgent or not, you know before you hang up.
- Step 2
Diagnose
We find the actual fault. Not a guess, and not a rewire you did not need.
- Step 3
Price
You get the number before the work starts, in writing.
- Step 4
Permit
Where the village requires one, we pull it. That is on us, not on you.
- Step 5
Install
Licensed and insured, to code, cleaned up behind us.
- Step 6
Inspect
We meet the inspector and we sign off. You get the documentation.

Backup power, done on the record
Every job goes on the record. A permit filed where the village asks for one, an inspection passed, and a licensed, insured electrician doing the work.
Backup power questions
Do you handle backup power in Des Plaines?
Yes. Backup power is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
Permitted work is inspected work, and we treat both as part of the job. You do not have to call the village yourself. We do, and you get the paperwork afterward.
How soon can you start?
Emergencies get same-day attention. Scheduled work usually starts within a few days, depending on parts and on whether a permit has to clear first.
Are you licensed for this?
Yes. Quik Wire Electric holds an Illinois electrical contractor license and carries insurance. Every electrician on the job works under that license.
What does it cost?
It varies too much by job to quote blind. A loose connection and a panel change are different jobs entirely. We come out, find the actual problem, and give you a firm written price for fixing it. No work starts until you agree to it.
