What EV charging stations involves
A building owner wants the same answer every time. Is it safe, and when is it done. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With EV charging stations, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
We explain the job in plain terms before anything starts: what we are changing, why, and how long the power will be off. If a smaller fix does the job, that is the fix you get.
Where this comes up
Build-outs, tenant work, lighting and three-phase power for buildings that cannot go dark. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
New load on old wiring is the most common version. A heat pump or a charger for the car goes in, the circuits that were fine until then start complaining, and the real question becomes whether the existing service can carry it at all.
How we do it
Licensed electricians, to code, cleaned up behind us. Where the village requires a permit we pull it and we meet the inspector, so the work is on record and it passes.
Why this is worth doing properly
A bad electrical connection does not fail politely. It heats, it chars the box around it, and eventually starts a fire inside a wall where nobody can see it. That is why the licensing exists and why an inspector looks at the work. Every connection has to be tight, every conductor sized for the load it will actually carry, every box accessible afterwards.
The cost of doing it right the first time is almost always lower than the cost of doing it twice. We would rather tell you the job is bigger than you hoped than come back in two years.
Scheduling and how long it takes
We work seven days a week, so a Saturday or Sunday problem does not wait for Monday. Emergencies are same day. Routine work is booked a few days out, and permitted work follows the village calendar.
Some dates are ours to set and some belong to somebody else. The install day is ours. The village inspection and any ComEd disconnect are not, so we book those first and build our part of the schedule around them.
Code, permits and inspection
Schools, municipal buildings and other public facilities often carry requirements beyond the local electrical code, from the owner’s own standards to bid documents spelling out exactly how work is done. We read those first and build the job to whichever rule is stricter.
We deal with whichever jurisdiction the job sits in. We pull the permit, we schedule the inspection, and we are there when the inspector walks it. You get the paperwork at the end, which matters when you sell the building or when an insurer asks.
Copper, aluminum and what is in your walls
Aluminum branch wiring went into a lot of houses in the late sixties and early seventies. It is not automatically dangerous, but it expands and contracts more than copper, which loosens terminations over time, and it needs devices and connectors rated for it.
The repair is usually not a full rewire. Proper connectors at every termination, done thoroughly, solves most of it. Anybody quoting you a whole-house rewire on sight has not looked.
The warning signs people ignore
The breaker that trips once a month gets ignored because it holds afterward. The outlet that only works when the plug is wiggled gets a strip of tape over it. Both are connections failing slowly. Slow failures give you time, but they do not fix themselves.
Warm is a warning. A switch, outlet or breaker should never feel hot, and heat at a device means current is fighting a bad connection.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.
How the job runs
- Step 1
Call
The first conversation is with an electrician. Explain what happened, and we will say plainly whether it needs attention now.
- Step 2
Diagnose
We find the actual fault. Not a guess, and not a rewire you did not need.
- Step 3
Price
You get the number before the work starts, in writing.
- Step 4
Permit
Where the village requires one, we pull it. That is on us, not on you.
- Step 5
Install
Licensed and insured, to code, cleaned up behind us.
- Step 6
Inspect
We meet the inspector and we sign off. You get the documentation.

EV charging stations, done on the record
On the record means a licensed electrician, real insurance, a permit when the village calls for one, and an inspector’s sign-off.
EV charging stations questions
Do you handle EV charging stations in Des Plaines?
Yes. EV charging stations is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
Where one is required, yes. Some places want a permit for a single circuit, others only for a service change, and we know to check. The inspection record is yours when we finish.
How soon can you start?
That depends on what kind of job it is. Something unsafe gets attention the same day. Scheduled work generally starts within a few days, with permits and parts being the usual holdups.
Are you licensed for this?
Yes. You are hiring a licensed Illinois electrical contractor with insurance in place, so if something goes wrong, there is a company accountable for it.
What does it cost?
First we find the fault, then we price the fix. You get that price in writing before any work starts, and it only moves if the scope of the job moves.
