As-built electrical documentation
Some electrical work is mostly paperwork, code and coordination. Quik Wire Electric handles as-built electrical documentation across Des Plaines and 24 Illinois counties. Licensed, insured, permitted where it needs to be.
- Licensed
Illinois electrical contractor license. The work passes inspection.
- Insured
Full coverage on every job, residential through municipal.
- 24/7
No power, burning smell, breaker that will not hold. We answer.
- Permits pulled
If a permit is required, we file it and handle the inspection.

What as-built electrical documentation involves
Some electrical work is mostly paperwork, code and coordination. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With as-built electrical documentation, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
We tell you what we find before we tell you what it costs. If the scope is smaller than you expected, it gets smaller. That happens more often than people assume.
Where this comes up
Code corrections, permits, load calculations, design-build and utility coordination. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
A home sale is often when this surfaces. An inspector flags aluminum branch wiring, a fuse box or a panel with doubled-up breakers, and suddenly there is a deadline. We can tell you which items are urgent and which are only noted.
How we do it
We protect the floors, keep the mess contained and haul out what we remove. The work itself goes in to code, and where a permit applies, it gets pulled and inspected.
What changes with an older building
Buildings in this part of Illinois cover about a century of wiring practice. Knob-and-tube in the oldest, cloth-insulated branch circuits after that, aluminum wiring in a stretch of the sixties and seventies, and modern copper since. Each one fails differently and each one has its own repair path.
We look at what is actually in the walls before quoting, because guessing from the year the house was built is how people end up with a surprise halfway through.
Who actually shows up
You get someone who has been in tough situations and knows what they are looking at. Our crew is licensed, works on everything from homes to government facilities, and does every part of the job in-house.
Before the visit you know who is coming and roughly what time. If something holds us up, we call you. You should never be left watching the driveway.
The inspection is the point
An inspection is an independent check that what went behind the drywall matches what was supposed to. Work that passes has been verified by somebody with no stake in the invoice.
That is also why we would rather you hire a licensed contractor than the cheapest number you can find. Unpermitted electrical work is a problem you inherit, and it usually surfaces at the worst moment.
Materials and why they matter
Devices are not all the same. A fifty-cent backstabbed outlet holds the conductor with a spring clip; a commercial-grade one clamps it under a screw plate. The second kind is a couple of dollars more and it is the reason the connection is still tight in fifteen years.
We use commercial-grade devices as standard. It is a small share of the job cost and it is the part most likely to fail if you go cheap on it.
What to do before we arrive
Outdoor problem, like a damaged service mast or a line down near the house? Stay well back from it and keep others back too. Do not try to move anything. That one involves ComEd as well as us, and we will coordinate it.
If a breaker tripped, note which one, and leave it off if it trips again on reset. Tell us when you call.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.
How the job runs
- Step 1
Call
No call center. The person on the phone knows electrical work and can tell you if it needs someone today.
- Step 2
Diagnose
We find the actual fault. Not a guess, and not a rewire you did not need.
- Step 3
Price
You get the number before the work starts, in writing.
- Step 4
Permit
Where the village requires one, we pull it. That is on us, not on you.
- Step 5
Install
Licensed and insured, to code, cleaned up behind us.
- Step 6
Inspect
We meet the inspector and we sign off. You get the documentation.

As-built electrical documentation, done on the record
Licensed, insured, permitted where the village requires it, and inspected when the job closes. That is the whole standard.
As-built electrical documentation questions
Do you handle as-built electrical documentation in Des Plaines?
Yes. As-built electrical documentation is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
If the municipality requires a permit for it, the work is permitted and inspected. That record matters later, when you sell the building or file an insurance claim.
How soon can you start?
Urgent problems, same day. Everything else, usually within a few days of your call. If the village needs a permit before we start, the permit sets the date.
Are you licensed for this?
We are. Quik Wire Electric is a licensed Illinois electrical contractor, fully insured, and nobody works on your property outside that license.
What does it cost?
It depends on what the job actually needs, which is why we look before we quote. You get a written number before work starts and it does not move unless the scope does.
