Electrical infrastructure upgrades
Redundancy has to be designed in from the start. Bolting it on afterwards costs more and usually still leaves a single point of failure somewhere. Quik Wire Electric handles electrical infrastructure upgrades across Des Plaines and 24 Illinois counties. Licensed, insured, permitted where it needs to be.
- Licensed
Illinois electrical contractor license. The work passes inspection.
- Insured
Full coverage on every job, residential through municipal.
- 24/7
No power, burning smell, breaker that will not hold. We answer.
- Permits pulled
The village gets its permit and you get the inspection record.

What electrical infrastructure upgrades involves
Redundancy has to be designed in from the start. Bolting it on afterwards costs more and usually still leaves a single point of failure somewhere. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With electrical infrastructure upgrades, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
We tell you what we find before we tell you what it costs. If the scope is smaller than you expected, it gets smaller. That happens more often than people assume.
Where this comes up
Critical power, UPS, redundancy and the electrical behind server rooms. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
New load on old wiring is the most common version. A heat pump or a charger for the car goes in, the circuits that were fine until then start complaining, and the real question becomes whether the existing service can carry it at all.
How we do it
Licensed and insured on every call. No job is too small to do properly, and no shortcut is worth an inspector’s red tag. We would rather do it once.
What changes with an older building
Buildings in this part of Illinois cover about a century of wiring practice. Knob-and-tube in the oldest, cloth-insulated branch circuits after that, aluminum wiring in a stretch of the sixties and seventies, and modern copper since. Each one fails differently and each one has its own repair path.
We look at what is actually in the walls before quoting, because guessing from the year the house was built is how people end up with a surprise halfway through.
Who actually shows up
The same licensed electricians, whether the job is one dead outlet in a bungalow or switchgear in a village facility. We do not run a separate B-team for small work and we do not subcontract the parts nobody wants.
You will know who to expect and when. If the schedule slips, we pick up the phone and tell you, because your day matters as much as ours.
Code, permits and inspection
Schools, municipal buildings and other public facilities often carry requirements beyond the local electrical code, from the owner’s own standards to bid documents spelling out exactly how work is done. We read those first and build the job to whichever rule is stricter.
We deal with whichever jurisdiction the job sits in. We pull the permit, we schedule the inspection, and we are there when the inspector walks it. You get the paperwork at the end, which matters when you sell the building or when an insurer asks.
Materials and why they matter
Devices are not all the same. A fifty-cent backstabbed outlet holds the conductor with a spring clip; a commercial-grade one clamps it under a screw plate. The second kind is a couple of dollars more and it is the reason the connection is still tight in fifteen years.
We use commercial-grade devices as standard. It is a small share of the job cost and it is the part most likely to fail if you go cheap on it.
What to do before we arrive
Outdoor problem, like a damaged service mast or a line down near the house? Stay well back from it and keep others back too. Do not try to move anything. That one involves ComEd as well as us, and we will coordinate it.
Keep track of patterns. Does it happen in the morning, in the rain, when the microwave runs? Patterns point us straight at the fault.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.
How the job runs
- Step 1
Call
No call center. The person on the phone knows electrical work and can tell you if it needs someone today.
- Step 2
Diagnose
We find the actual fault. Not a guess, and not a rewire you did not need.
- Step 3
Price
You get the number before the work starts, in writing.
- Step 4
Permit
Where the village requires one, we pull it. That is on us, not on you.
- Step 5
Install
Licensed and insured, to code, cleaned up behind us.
- Step 6
Inspect
We meet the inspector and we sign off. You get the documentation.

Electrical infrastructure upgrades, done on the record
Licensed and insured on every call. Where a permit applies it is filed, and the inspection closes the job.
Electrical infrastructure upgrades questions
Do you handle electrical infrastructure upgrades in Des Plaines?
Yes. Electrical infrastructure upgrades is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
Yes. Permit requirements change from one village to the next, so we check before we start, pull what is needed and stay through the inspection.
How soon can you start?
Urgent problems, same day. Everything else, usually within a few days of your call. If the village needs a permit before we start, the permit sets the date.
Are you licensed for this?
Every job is done under Quik Wire Electric’s Illinois electrical contractor license, and the company is insured. We do not hand the work off to anyone outside that license.
What does it cost?
First we find the fault, then we price the fix. You get that price in writing before any work starts, and it only moves if the scope of the job moves.
