What equipment connections involves
Street and site electrical is a different trade from building electrical. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With equipment connections, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
You see the problem before you see a price. We point to what we found, explain why it matters and then tell you what fixing it takes. No pressure to approve on the spot.
Where this comes up
Street lighting, traffic signals, pump stations and underground distribution. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
New load on old wiring is the most common version. A heat pump or a charger for the car goes in, the circuits that were fine until then start complaining, and the real question becomes whether the existing service can carry it at all.
How we do it
Licensed electricians, to code, cleaned up behind us. Where the village requires a permit we pull it and we meet the inspector, so the work is on record and it passes.
Why this is worth doing properly
A bad electrical connection does not fail politely. It heats, it chars the box around it, and eventually starts a fire inside a wall where nobody can see it. That is why the licensing exists and why an inspector looks at the work. Every connection has to be tight, every conductor sized for the load it will actually carry, every box accessible afterwards.
The cost of doing it right the first time is almost always lower than the cost of doing it twice. We would rather tell you the job is bigger than you hoped than come back in two years.
Scheduling and how long it takes
Call in the middle of the night with a dead panel and someone answers. Call on a Tuesday about adding outlets and you will likely see us within a few days, sooner if the schedule allows.
The quote comes with the honest version of the timeline: how long the work itself takes, plus how long we expect to wait on a permit or an inspection. Those are two separate numbers and we give you both.
The inspection is the point
An inspection is an independent check that what went behind the drywall matches what was supposed to. Work that passes has been verified by somebody with no stake in the invoice.
That is also why we would rather you hire a licensed contractor than the cheapest number you can find. Unpermitted electrical work is a problem you inherit, and it usually surfaces at the worst moment.
Grounding and bonding
Grounding is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether a fault clears safely. The ground path has to be continuous and low-impedance from every device back to the service, and the neutral and ground can only be bonded together in one place.
A neutral bonded to ground in a subpanel is one of the most common defects we find. It works right up until it does not, and then it puts current on metal that people touch.
The warning signs people ignore
Lights that dim when a large appliance starts. Outlets that only work sometimes. A breaker that trips every few weeks rather than every day. A faceplate that is warm. Each of those is a fault that has not finished developing yet.
A buzz from a switch or dimmer is not normal noise. It usually means a loose connection arcing, and arcing generates heat.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.
How the job runs
- Step 1
Call
No call center. The person on the phone knows electrical work and can tell you if it needs someone today.
- Step 2
Diagnose
We find the actual fault. Not a guess, and not a rewire you did not need.
- Step 3
Price
You get the number before the work starts, in writing.
- Step 4
Permit
Where the village requires one, we pull it. That is on us, not on you.
- Step 5
Install
Licensed and insured, to code, cleaned up behind us.
- Step 6
Inspect
We meet the inspector and we sign off. You get the documentation.

Equipment connections, done on the record
On the record means a licensed electrician, real insurance, a permit when the village calls for one, and an inspector’s sign-off.
Equipment connections questions
Do you handle equipment connections in Des Plaines?
Yes. Equipment connections is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
Yes. Permit requirements change from one village to the next, so we check before we start, pull what is needed and stay through the inspection.
How soon can you start?
If it is an emergency, today. Planned work usually starts within a few days, sooner when no permit is needed and the parts are on hand.
Are you licensed for this?
Yes. You are hiring a licensed Illinois electrical contractor with insurance in place, so if something goes wrong, there is a company accountable for it.
What does it cost?
Tell us what is going on and we can tell you what kind of job it probably is. The firm number comes after we have seen it, written and itemized, and it stays put unless the work changes.
