What equipment power connections involves
A server room is mostly a power and cooling problem. The computing is the easy part. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With equipment power connections, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
The first step is finding out what is actually wrong. Sometimes it is one loose connection at a device, and the fix is an hour. We will tell you that plainly instead of selling a bigger job.
Where this comes up
Critical power, UPS, redundancy and the electrical behind server rooms. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
Older Illinois buildings rarely match the drawings, if there are drawings at all. Circuits wander between floors, junction boxes hide above ceilings, and a single breaker might feed a bedroom and half the kitchen. Tracing it properly is the first hour of a lot of jobs.
How we do it
One crew handles residential, commercial and municipal work, so the person in your basement has seen harder jobs than yours. Everything goes in to code and passes inspection where one is required.
What changes with an older building
Buildings in this part of Illinois cover about a century of wiring practice. Knob-and-tube in the oldest, cloth-insulated branch circuits after that, aluminum wiring in a stretch of the sixties and seventies, and modern copper since. Each one fails differently and each one has its own repair path.
We look at what is actually in the walls before quoting, because guessing from the year the house was built is how people end up with a surprise halfway through.
Who actually shows up
No job is too small for the real crew. Whether it is a single switch or a municipal facility, a licensed electrician from Quik Wire Electric does the work start to finish. None of it gets passed to a subcontractor.
We keep the time we give you. When something on an earlier job runs over, we let you know as soon as we do, so you can plan around it.
What the permit actually buys you
A permit puts the work on the public record for the address. When the building changes hands, that record is evidence the electrical was done and checked. Without it, a buyer's inspector treats everything they find as suspect.
It also means the work was sized and installed to the code edition in force, not to whatever was normal when the building went up.
Grounding and bonding
Grounding is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether a fault clears safely. The ground path has to be continuous and low-impedance from every device back to the service, and the neutral and ground can only be bonded together in one place.
A neutral bonded to ground in a subpanel is one of the most common defects we find. It works right up until it does not, and then it puts current on metal that people touch.
What to do before we arrive
If the panel itself is hot, buzzing or smells, do not touch it at all. Shut off the main only if you can reach it without leaning on the box. Otherwise keep clear and tell us that when you call.
Clear a path to the panel and the problem area. Then jot down anything that seems to set it off, like a certain appliance or time of day.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.
How the job runs
- Step 1
Call
Call and talk it through with a licensed electrician. We will be honest about how serious it sounds.
- Step 2
Diagnose
We find the actual fault. Not a guess, and not a rewire you did not need.
- Step 3
Price
You get the number before the work starts, in writing.
- Step 4
Permit
Where the village requires one, we pull it. That is on us, not on you.
- Step 5
Install
Licensed and insured, to code, cleaned up behind us.
- Step 6
Inspect
We meet the inspector and we sign off. You get the documentation.

Equipment power connections, done on the record
No shortcuts that skip the permit. The work is licensed and insured, and it is inspected before we call it done.
Equipment power connections questions
Do you handle equipment power connections in Des Plaines?
Yes. Equipment power connections is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
Yes. We pull the permit under our license, meet the inspector on site and hand you the closed-out documentation when the job is done.
How soon can you start?
Sooner than most people expect. A safety issue gets someone out the same day. Planned work typically starts in a few days, depending on parts and any permit.
Are you licensed for this?
Yes, licensed and insured on every call. The company holds an Illinois electrical contractor license, and the electricians who show up work under it.
What does it cost?
Sometimes less than people expect, because if a part does not need replacing we say so. Either way you get a written price after we have seen the job, and it holds unless the scope changes.
