What new construction electrical involves
Commercial jobs live or die on coordination, not on wire. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With new construction electrical, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
Plenty of calls end with a smaller bill than people braced for. A tripping breaker is often a single bad device, and a dead outlet is often a loose wire two boxes away.
Where this comes up
Build-outs, tenant work, lighting and three-phase power for buildings that cannot go dark. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
Older Illinois buildings rarely match the drawings, if there are drawings at all. Circuits wander between floors, junction boxes hide above ceilings, and a single breaker might feed a bedroom and half the kitchen. Tracing it properly is the first hour of a lot of jobs.
How we do it
Straight to the point: we find the problem, fix it to code and leave the space as clean as we found it. Anything that needs a permit gets one, and gets inspected.
Why this is worth doing properly
Insurance companies and home buyers both ask about electrical work eventually. Unpermitted wiring can complicate a claim or a sale, and a panel full of mismatched breakers can stall a closing. Work that was permitted and inspected, with the paperwork kept, answers those questions on one sheet of paper. That is a lot easier than explaining a mystery circuit years after the fact.
The cost of doing it right the first time is almost always lower than the cost of doing it twice. We would rather tell you the job is bigger than you hoped than come back in two years.
Scheduling and how long it takes
Once a job is booked, the work itself usually goes quickly. The waiting, when there is any, comes from permit offices and ComEd scheduling, which is why a service change takes longer to start than a repair does.
Parts can set the pace. Common breakers and devices are on the truck. Larger gear, like a specific panel or a transfer switch, may have to be ordered, and we will tell you that at the quote instead of on the day.
What the permit actually buys you
A permit puts the work on the public record for the address. When the building changes hands, that record is evidence the electrical was done and checked. Without it, a buyer's inspector treats everything they find as suspect.
It also means the work was sized and installed to the code edition in force, not to whatever was normal when the building went up.
Materials and why they matter
Devices are not all the same. A fifty-cent backstabbed outlet holds the conductor with a spring clip; a commercial-grade one clamps it under a screw plate. The second kind is a couple of dollars more and it is the reason the connection is still tight in fifteen years.
We use commercial-grade devices as standard. It is a small share of the job cost and it is the part most likely to fail if you go cheap on it.
When to stop and call
Stop using a circuit and call if you see scorching around an outlet or switch, smell hot plastic, hear buzzing from a panel or a device, or feel warmth on a faceplate or breaker.
Do not keep resetting a breaker that will not hold. It is doing its job. Something downstream is drawing more than the circuit is rated for, or there is a fault, and repeated resets remove the one protection that is working.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.

New construction electrical, done on the record
The standard does not change with the size of the job. Every job is licensed and insured, and inspected wherever the village requires a permit.
New construction electrical questions
Do you handle new construction electrical in Des Plaines?
Yes. New construction electrical is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
Yes. We pull the permit under our license, meet the inspector on site and hand you the closed-out documentation when the job is done.
How soon can you start?
Scheduled work usually starts within a few days, slower only if a permit or a part is holding it up. Emergencies get seen the same day.
Are you licensed for this?
Licensed and insured, both. We hold an Illinois electrical contractor license, and it covers every home, business and municipal job we take on.
What does it cost?
Sometimes less than people expect, because if a part does not need replacing we say so. Either way you get a written price after we have seen the job, and it holds unless the scope changes.
