What generator systems involves
Street and site electrical is a different trade from building electrical. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With generator systems, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
Plenty of calls end with a smaller bill than people braced for. A tripping breaker is often a single bad device, and a dead outlet is often a loose wire two boxes away.
Where this comes up
Street lighting, traffic signals, pump stations and underground distribution. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
Insulation is the quiet problem. Cloth-wrapped conductors from decades ago go brittle inside the box, and they crack the moment somebody moves them to swap a switch. A small job becomes a careful one, so we check before we promise a time.
How we do it
Quik Wire Electric has 3 years in business and 10 years of electrical experience behind it. The work goes in to code, gets tested and comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
Why it usually cannot wait
Electrical problems do not stay the same size. A loose connection heats up, the heat oxidizes the metal, the oxidized metal raises the resistance, and the resistance makes more heat. That loop runs in one direction only and it ends at a scorched box.
If something is tripping, buzzing, warm to the touch or smells like hot plastic, that is the system telling you where the problem is while it is still cheap to fix.
How we quote it
Every quote starts with a visit. An electrician looks at the panel, the service size and the circuits involved, and asks what you plan to add over the next few years. The price you get reflects the building you actually have rather than a guess about a typical one.
We keep quotes simple to read: each item, what it covers and its price. If something comes up on site that the quote did not cover, you hear about it from us before it becomes part of the bill.
What the permit actually buys you
A permit puts the work on the public record for the address. When the building changes hands, that record is evidence the electrical was done and checked. Without it, a buyer's inspector treats everything they find as suspect.
It also means the work was sized and installed to the code edition in force, not to whatever was normal when the building went up.
Grounding and bonding
Grounding is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether a fault clears safely. The ground path has to be continuous and low-impedance from every device back to the service, and the neutral and ground can only be bonded together in one place.
A neutral bonded to ground in a subpanel is one of the most common defects we find. It works right up until it does not, and then it puts current on metal that people touch.
What to do before we arrive
If water is anywhere near the panel or an outlet, do not touch either one. Stay out of the wet area, keep everyone back, and call us. A flooded basement with live circuits is a job for us, not for a pair of rubber boots.
Clear a path to the panel and the problem area. Then jot down anything that seems to set it off, like a certain appliance or time of day.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.
How the job runs
- Step 1
Call
Call and talk it through with a licensed electrician. We will be honest about how serious it sounds.
- Step 2
Diagnose
We find the actual fault. Not a guess, and not a rewire you did not need.
- Step 3
Price
You get the number before the work starts, in writing.
- Step 4
Permit
Where the village requires one, we pull it. That is on us, not on you.
- Step 5
Install
Licensed and insured, to code, cleaned up behind us.
- Step 6
Inspect
We meet the inspector and we sign off. You get the documentation.

Generator systems, done on the record
The standard does not change with the size of the job. Every job is licensed and insured, and inspected wherever the village requires a permit.
Generator systems questions
Do you handle generator systems in Des Plaines?
Yes. Generator systems is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
Every job that needs a permit gets one. We coordinate the inspection date, walk the inspector through the work, and you receive the paperwork when it closes.
How soon can you start?
Sooner than most people expect. A safety issue gets someone out the same day. Planned work typically starts in a few days, depending on parts and any permit.
Are you licensed for this?
Yes, licensed and insured on every call. The company holds an Illinois electrical contractor license, and the electricians who show up work under it.
What does it cost?
We do not give a price over the phone for work we have not seen, because a number like that is a guess. Once we have looked, you get a written price, and that is the price unless the job itself changes.
