What construction electrical involves
Code corrections are what happen when somebody skipped this step earlier. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With construction electrical, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
Honest answer first. If what you have is fine, we say it is fine. If it needs work, we tell you how much and why, with the urgent parts separated from the ones that can wait.
Where this comes up
Code corrections, permits, load calculations, design-build and utility coordination. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
It comes up most during a remodel. The walls are open, the old wiring is right there, and it is the cheapest moment the building will ever give you to fix what is behind them. Once the drywall is back, the same repair costs more.
How we do it
One crew handles residential, commercial and municipal work, so the person in your basement has seen harder jobs than yours. Everything goes in to code and passes inspection where one is required.
What we see go wrong
Most of the bad work we find was not done by an electrician. It was a handyman, a previous owner or somebody who watched a video. Backstabbed outlets, undersized conductors, missing grounds, neutrals and grounds bonded in a subpanel, junctions buried inside a wall with no box.
None of that is visible from the living room. It surfaces during a remodel, a home inspection, or the day a breaker stops holding.
What happens when we are done
We test before we call it finished, every time. If something does not test right, we fix it while we are still there. Then the panel gets labeled, the scraps leave with us, and you get a clear account of the job.
Where a permit was pulled you get the closed inspection. Where documentation exists, you get it.
What the permit actually buys you
A permit puts the work on the public record for the address. When the building changes hands, that record is evidence the electrical was done and checked. Without it, a buyer's inspector treats everything they find as suspect.
It also means the work was sized and installed to the code edition in force, not to whatever was normal when the building went up.
Grounding and bonding
Grounding is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether a fault clears safely. The ground path has to be continuous and low-impedance from every device back to the service, and the neutral and ground can only be bonded together in one place.
A neutral bonded to ground in a subpanel is one of the most common defects we find. It works right up until it does not, and then it puts current on metal that people touch.
What to do before we arrive
If there is a burning smell and you can safely reach the panel, shut off the affected circuit. If you cannot identify it, shut off the main. Do not run extension cords from another circuit as a workaround, especially for anything that heats.
Do not try to open the panel or take a device apart. Just tell us what you noticed and when, and we will take it from there.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.
How the job runs
- Step 1
Call
Tell us what the lights, the breaker or the outlet are doing. We will tell you whether it can wait.
- Step 2
Diagnose
We find the actual fault. Not a guess, and not a rewire you did not need.
- Step 3
Price
You get the number before the work starts, in writing.
- Step 4
Permit
Where the village requires one, we pull it. That is on us, not on you.
- Step 5
Install
Licensed and insured, to code, cleaned up behind us.
- Step 6
Inspect
We meet the inspector and we sign off. You get the documentation.

Construction electrical, done on the record
No shortcuts that skip the permit. The work is licensed and insured, and it is inspected before we call it done.
Construction electrical questions
Do you handle construction electrical in Des Plaines?
Yes. Construction electrical is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
Yes. We pull the permit under our license, meet the inspector on site and hand you the closed-out documentation when the job is done.
How soon can you start?
Emergencies get same-day attention. Scheduled work usually starts within a few days, depending on parts and on whether a permit has to clear first.
Are you licensed for this?
Yes, licensed and insured on every call. The company holds an Illinois electrical contractor license, and the electricians who show up work under it.
What does it cost?
We do not give a price over the phone for work we have not seen, because a number like that is a guess. Once we have looked, you get a written price, and that is the price unless the job itself changes.
