What stormwater facility electrical involves
Underground work is judged years later, when somebody has to find it. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With stormwater facility electrical, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
Where repair makes more sense than replacement, we repair. Swapping out equipment that still has years left in it is good business for a contractor and a bad deal for you.
Where this comes up
Street lighting, traffic signals, pump stations and underground distribution. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
Older Illinois buildings rarely match the drawings, if there are drawings at all. Circuits wander between floors, junction boxes hide above ceilings, and a single breaker might feed a bedroom and half the kitchen. Tracing it properly is the first hour of a lot of jobs.
How we do it
Straight to the point: we find the problem, fix it to code and leave the space as clean as we found it. Anything that needs a permit gets one, and gets inspected.
Why it usually cannot wait
Electrical problems do not stay the same size. A loose connection heats up, the heat oxidizes the metal, the oxidized metal raises the resistance, and the resistance makes more heat. That loop runs in one direction only and it ends at a scorched box.
If something is tripping, buzzing, warm to the touch or smells like hot plastic, that is the system telling you where the problem is while it is still cheap to fix.
How we quote it
If somebody prices your job without seeing it, they are guessing, and the guess gets corrected later on your bill. We would rather come out, look at the actual equipment and quote from that.
The quote spells out what we will do, item by item, and what it costs. If we open up a box or a panel and find the job is different, we pause and walk you through it before any more work happens.
Code, permits and inspection
Past work without a permit sometimes surfaces when we pull one. An inspector looking at a new circuit may notice an older addition that was never inspected. If that happens, we explain the options and what it takes to bring the earlier work into compliance.
We deal with whichever jurisdiction the job sits in. We pull the permit, we schedule the inspection, and we are there when the inspector walks it. You get the paperwork at the end, which matters when you sell the building or when an insurer asks.
Grounding and bonding
Grounding is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether a fault clears safely. The ground path has to be continuous and low-impedance from every device back to the service, and the neutral and ground can only be bonded together in one place.
A neutral bonded to ground in a subpanel is one of the most common defects we find. It works right up until it does not, and then it puts current on metal that people touch.
The warning signs people ignore
If you have started unplugging one thing to run another, the circuit is telling you it is overloaded. Same if a breaker trips in one season and never in the other. People work around these for years. We would rather see them early, while the fix is still a small one.
A problem that fixes itself has not gone away. It has only stopped showing up for now, and the cause is still sitting behind the plate.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.

Stormwater facility electrical questions
Do you handle stormwater facility electrical in Des Plaines?
Yes. Stormwater facility electrical is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
Permitted work is inspected work, and we treat both as part of the job. You do not have to call the village yourself. We do, and you get the paperwork afterward.
How soon can you start?
Scheduled work usually starts within a few days, slower only if a permit or a part is holding it up. Emergencies get seen the same day.
Are you licensed for this?
Yes, with an Illinois electrical contractor license and insurance. That covers every job we take, from a single outlet to municipal work.
What does it cost?
Every job gets priced on its own. A dead outlet, a new 240V circuit and a service upgrade have very little in common on the bill. We look at yours, write down the price, and hold to it unless the scope moves.
