What emergency electrical repairs involves
The failures that shut a building down are usually the ones nobody inspected. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With emergency electrical repairs, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
We tell you what we find before we tell you what it costs. If the scope is smaller than you expected, it gets smaller. That happens more often than people assume.
Where this comes up
Inspections, preventive maintenance and emergency repairs around the clock. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
Previous work is the wild card. Plenty of Illinois homes and shops have circuits somebody extended on a weekend, splices buried in a wall with no box, and breakers upsized to stop a nuisance trip. We find those first, because they decide what is safe to build on.
How we do it
Every connection gets tightened properly and every wire is sized for the load it carries. Where the village requires a permit, the inspector signs off on it, so the standard is on paper as well as in the wall.
Why this is worth doing properly
Whoever works on your system next will trust what they find. If the panel labels are accurate and every splice is in an accessible box, they can work safely and quickly. If somebody cut corners, the next electrician spends hours tracing circuits, or worse, assumes a circuit is dead when it is not. Doing the work properly protects people you will never meet.
The cost of doing it right the first time is almost always lower than the cost of doing it twice. We would rather tell you the job is bigger than you hoped than come back in two years.
Scheduling and how long it takes
We answer 24/7 and an emergency gets a crew the same day. Planned work typically starts within a few days of the go-ahead, unless a permit or a ComEd appointment has to land first.
A job that looks simple can stretch once a wall is open. If we find something that adds a day, you hear about it that afternoon, along with the reason and what it changes about the finish date.
Code, permits and inspection
Illinois municipalities adopt the National Electrical Code on their own schedule, which means the rules in one village are not always the rules in the next one over. Permit thresholds differ too. Some places want a permit for a circuit, some only for a service change.
We deal with whichever jurisdiction the job sits in. We pull the permit, we schedule the inspection, and we are there when the inspector walks it. You get the paperwork at the end, which matters when you sell the building or when an insurer asks.
Materials and why they matter
Devices are not all the same. A fifty-cent backstabbed outlet holds the conductor with a spring clip; a commercial-grade one clamps it under a screw plate. The second kind is a couple of dollars more and it is the reason the connection is still tight in fifteen years.
We use commercial-grade devices as standard. It is a small share of the job cost and it is the part most likely to fail if you go cheap on it.
When to stop and call
Water near anything electrical is a stop-and-call situation: a wet panel, a flooded basement with outlets near the floor, or a fixture dripping after a leak upstairs. Keep clear of it and call us before anyone resets anything.
A GFCI outlet that trips the instant you press reset is telling you something specific: there is a ground fault on that line right now. Do not bypass it or replace it with a regular outlet. Unplug everything downstream and call us.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.
How the job runs
- Step 1
Call
The first conversation is with an electrician. Explain what happened, and we will say plainly whether it needs attention now.
- Step 2
Diagnose
We find the actual fault. Not a guess, and not a rewire you did not need.
- Step 3
Price
You get the number before the work starts, in writing.
- Step 4
Permit
Where the village requires one, we pull it. That is on us, not on you.
- Step 5
Install
Licensed and insured, to code, cleaned up behind us.
- Step 6
Inspect
We meet the inspector and we sign off. You get the documentation.

Emergency electrical repairs, done on the record
Licensed and insured on every call. Where a permit applies it is filed, and the inspection closes the job.
Emergency electrical repairs questions
Do you handle emergency electrical repairs in Des Plaines?
Yes. Emergency electrical repairs is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
Yes. Skipping a required permit saves nobody anything once a buyer or an insurer asks for it. We file it, meet the inspector and give you the records.
How soon can you start?
When you call, we tell you where you fall. Emergencies are same-day. Most scheduled jobs start within a few days, and if a permit or parts will slow things down, you hear that up front.
Are you licensed for this?
Yes. Quik Wire Electric is insured and holds an Illinois electrical contractor license, which is what lets us pull permits and stand behind the work at inspection.
What does it cost?
We price each job from what it actually needs, so we look before we name a number. The price is written down before work begins and only changes if the scope changes, and you hear about that before it happens.
