What GFCI outlets involves
A house tells you when its electrical system is behind. The work starts with finding out what is actually there. With GFCI outlets, that means looking at the existing wiring, the panel capacity and whatever the last person left behind.
You see the problem before you see a price. We point to what we found, explain why it matters and then tell you what fixing it takes. No pressure to approve on the spot.
Where this comes up
Panels, rewires, outlets, lighting and the circuits behind everything in a house. Most of these calls come from Des Plaines and the surrounding suburbs, but we take them anywhere in our service area.
Commercial spaces change hands and change uses. A storefront becomes an auto shop, an office becomes a gym, and the wiring stays what the first tenant needed. When the new equipment shows up, the old circuits are usually the first thing that has to change.
How we do it
We work like it is our own house. Drop cloths go down, the power stays off only as long as it has to, and the work is finished to code with the permit closed out where the village requires one.
Why it usually cannot wait
Electrical problems do not stay the same size. A loose connection heats up, the heat oxidizes the metal, the oxidized metal raises the resistance, and the resistance makes more heat. That loop runs in one direction only and it ends at a scorched box.
If something is tripping, buzzing, warm to the touch or smells like hot plastic, that is the system telling you where the problem is while it is still cheap to fix.
How we quote it
When there is more than one way to do the job, the quote says so. A subpanel or a new service, repair or replace: you see both options priced, with our honest read on which one your building actually needs.
We look before we put a number on anything. The quote is in writing, broken out by item, and it says exactly what we are doing. What you approve is what we do.
The inspection is the point
An inspection is an independent check that what went behind the drywall matches what was supposed to. Work that passes has been verified by somebody with no stake in the invoice.
That is also why we would rather you hire a licensed contractor than the cheapest number you can find. Unpermitted electrical work is a problem you inherit, and it usually surfaces at the worst moment.
Copper, aluminum and what is in your walls
Aluminum branch wiring went into a lot of houses in the late sixties and early seventies. It is not automatically dangerous, but it expands and contracts more than copper, which loosens terminations over time, and it needs devices and connectors rated for it.
The repair is usually not a full rewire. Proper connectors at every termination, done thoroughly, solves most of it. Anybody quoting you a whole-house rewire on sight has not looked.
The warning signs people ignore
Sparks get noticed. The warnings that get missed are subtler: lights that brighten when something else turns on, a GFCI that will not reset after rain, a smell you cannot place that seems to come from a wall. Each one is a problem that is still small.
A faint smell that comes and goes is worth a call. Overheating insulation gives off that smell well before anything is visibly scorched.
We tell you what is wrong before we tell you what it costs.

GFCI outlets, done on the record
Licensed, insured, permitted where the village requires it, and inspected when the job closes. That is the whole standard.
GFCI outlets questions
Do you handle GFCI outlets in Des Plaines?
Yes. GFCI outlets is work we do regularly out of our Des Plaines shop, and we cover 24 counties across Illinois. Call and we will tell you when we can be there.
Is the work permitted and inspected?
Yes. Skipping a required permit saves nobody anything once a buyer or an insurer asks for it. We file it, meet the inspector and give you the records.
How soon can you start?
When you call, we tell you where you fall. Emergencies are same-day. Most scheduled jobs start within a few days, and if a permit or parts will slow things down, you hear that up front.
Are you licensed for this?
Yes. You are hiring a licensed Illinois electrical contractor with insurance in place, so if something goes wrong, there is a company accountable for it.
What does it cost?
It depends on what the job actually needs, which is why we look before we quote. You get a written number before work starts and it does not move unless the scope does.
